Bassline Invasion!!!

The bassline sound has been bubbling up in the North of England for awhile, and with the success of T2’s “Heartbroken” it’s pretty safe to say that it has the potential to break into the mainstream and make waves, as mentioned in the great new Africa issue of The Fader which you should probably cop immediately if you haven’t done so already. Bassline or Bassline house is basically a subgenre of UK Garage that takes the 4×4 garage and speed garage four to the floor beat and throws it into a blender with club shattering bass(lines) to deliver a sound that has been killing dancefloors in Europe for a minute, so much so that just a couple days ago Ministry of Sound released a new 54 track compilation called The Sound of Bassline mixed by Jamie Duggan, Shaun ‘Banger’ Scott and Nev Wright. Some have described bassline as the “anti-dubstep” because of its dancefloor friendly sound, but as DJ/Rupture (who is coincidentally DJing the Bersa Discos/ZIZEK fam party out in SF at Mezzanine on March 8th!) said, their similarity in tempo and ability to be mixed together can’t be overlooked. About a month ago the Trouble & Bass crew brought grime/bassline producer Dexplicit to NYC, and as you can see from the Dutty Artz produced video below, the bassline sound is BIG:
Anyway, as the kids say over in England, YA DUN KNOW!
