De La Soul 3 Feet High & Rising EPK

Classic. Doesn’t that vaguely remind you of Kanye in the background at 6:20???

Great video overall, good lookin’ out over at grandgood.

Edith Piaf - Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien

Takeshi Murata

— Sean @ 4:24 pm

Takeshi Murata’s work has always been a favorite of mine, and it seems like after last night’s screening at Deitch Projects here in NYC (with work by other video artists and animators like Ben Stone from Paper Rad and Adam Beckett) that he is venturing into new territory using old clips from Three’s Company and injecting some humor into his already visually stunning animations / videos.

I want to create new kinds space with my animation. I want to be able to transport the viewer is some way. I like to start with forms that are vaguely recognizable so there’s an initial point of reference. Then through the animation, I can shift the emphasis from form to movement. It’s at this point that I feel most expressive. I’m also inspired by psychedelic art and music because it reaches for something transcendental, but it’s also absurd and playful at the same time. I hope my animation is this way.

Check out his (somewhat outdated) website at takeshimurata.com, and an interview from SHIFT mag.

Handmade Portraits: Maya Hayuk

— Sean @ 1:02 pm

Great little video with Maya Hayuk, who I posted about here back in September of ‘07 (!) She continues to push the envelope and make awesome looking art.

McCain Senior Moments

Wow.

Shout outs to DJ Caps (sans Jones) for doin his damn thing at Savalas last night. More bloggy stuff soon; I’m thinking of trying to steer clear of regurgitating a lot of cool stuff that I find and actually start doing some writing on here, so stay tuned.

R.I.P. Mahmoud Darwish & Isaac Hayes

— Sean @ 9:13 pm

I come from there and I have memories
Born as mortals are, I have a mother
And a house with many windows,
I have brothers, friends,
And a prison cell with a cold window.
Mine is the wave, snatched by sea-gulls,
I have my own view,
And an extra blade of grass.
Mine is the moon at the far edge of the words,
And the bounty of birds,
And the immortal olive tree.
I walked this land before the swords
Turned its living body into a laden table.

I come from there. I render the sky unto her mother
When the sky weeps for her mother.
And I weep to make myself known
To a returning cloud.
I learnt all the words worthy of the court of blood
So that I could break the rule.
I learnt all the words and broke them up
To make a single word: Homeland…..

And of course, the legendary Mr. Isaac Hayes, this is turning into a damn obituary column!

“Have you ever wondered why young people take to music like fish to water? Maybe it’s because music is fun. Plan and simple. It opens up their minds to dream great dreams about where they can go and what they can do when they get older.”

R.I.P Bernie Mac

— Sean @ 12:11 pm

I still remember the time I went to see Kings of Comedy when I was in 7th grade with this girl Ashley. I had to piss the whole time, partly because I had to piss, and partly because I was busting up from Bernie Mac’s jokes. I’ll always remember the way his eyes would pop out of his head and say SUMAMABITCH. A true legend of comedy.

Beautiful Losers Film

— Sean @ 9:40 pm

Beautiful Losers film trailer from beautifullosersfilm on Vimeo.

The movie just got written up in The Times today, directed by Aaron Rose who seems like an around cool dude and the HNIC at the awesome ANP Quarterly…can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with; opens in NYC this week.

Vacation & New Blu

— Sean @ 7:12 pm

So I’ve been on vacation up in Vermont since Monday and it is just what I needed. As much as I feel like the city inspires me, sometimes I forget what it’s like to sit back and just coast for a minute. Sporadically checking the internet up here, I ran across these two new tracks from your boy Blu which are perfect for a lazy summer state of mind, courtesy of Nick at The Full Clip.

See you next week with a new surprise interview!

Blu - All The King’s Men

Presto ft. Blu - Pour Another Glass

Consequence ft. GLC - Disperse

— Sean @ 1:54 pm

Not sure how I missed this one, another Rik Cordero video with a star studded cast. This song is smooth as hell, reminds me a little bit of Snoop’s Let’s Get Blown. LOL @ Chad Hugo with a bowl of cereal, good to see him back in the mix. I wish GLC had spit more than 16 bars, but there it is. That is how it’s done, Chi-Town boys doin’ it real big.
